Triple H has been one of the main targets of WWE fans and analysts, as WrestleMania 42 is being characterized as the event with the most creative changes in history, especially due to last-minute decisions.
Obviously, not everything depends solely on WWE’s creative team. Wrestlers can get injured at any time, and this has been the main reason for the recent changes.
In an interview with Joe Tessitore, Triple H stated that the company truly doesn’t have substitutes for all of its stars—in other words, not everything can be predicted in advance.
“Oh, there are so many creative changes. Sometimes it’s the surprise of how you think the audience will react to something, and they react differently. Sometimes it’s when you’re planning everything in your head. Dusty Rhodes always told me that in your mind, you see things at 100%. If you can get 70% of that onto TV, it’s already a huge success. In your mind, everything is perfect. In practice, it’s different. There are millions of variables that can change everything, reduce the impact by one, two, three, or even twenty levels, or whatever. So things end up being different. Fans start reacting in another way. What you thought was set four months ago is no longer the path. The path has changed.
Another thing about our business is that, unlike a sport, if you lose your quarterback, your top offensive lineman, your center or star point guard in the NBA, you have a backup to replace him and hope he’s good. There is no backup for Cody Rhodes. There is no backup for Randy Orton. There is no backup for Roman Reigns. There is no backup for CM Punk.”
Just this week alone, at least two last-minute cancellations were made, most notably the match between IYO SKY and Asuka.
As previously reported by House of Wrestling, Triple H has been quite concerned about the recent direction WWE has taken, especially due to the criticism the company has been receiving.
