Gunther is already part of WWE history. In a seven-month span, from July 2025 to January 2026, he retired Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, earning the nickname “Career Killer.”

His victory over Cena in December 2025 was the most impactful of the three, as Gunther forced Cena to tap out—something that had only happened four times in the Greatest of All Time’s entire career. Previously, only Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, and Chris Benoit had accomplished that feat.

In a recent interview with WWE’s official YouTube channel, Gunther spoke about the negative reaction from fans regarding how Cena was defeated, stating that this victory is greater than any title he has ever won in the company.

“People were frustrated with the ending. When you hear the reaction after the tap out, it’s something incredible. This is the greatest achievement, because I made the guy who always said ‘never give up’ give up. That’s worth more than any title you can win.”

Gunther’s next WWE match will be at WrestleMania 42, against Seth Rollins.

On the latest episode of Monday Night RAW, Gunther also finally revealed the reason for temporarily aligning with Paul Heyman to face the Visionary at the Showcase of the Immortals.
