The first night of WWE WrestleMania 42, held last Saturday (18) in Las Vegas, Nevada, may go down in history, but not in the way you might think—instead, because of a controversial strategy by WWE.

According to WrestleVotes, via Fightful Select, WWE allegedly intentionally structured the first night of WrestleMania 42 to deliver less than expected, believing that would make the second night feel like a “historic” show.

On its X profile, WrestleVotes revealed the following:

“There are rumors that WWE deliberately put together Night 1 of WrestleMania to disappoint, betting that Night 2 would look like a historic show by comparison. Behind the scenes, the tactic was called the ‘contrast game’, although some deny it.”

The main event, between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton for the Undisputed WWE Championship, ended with the American Nightmare retaining the title.

In popular opinion, the only match that truly saved the night was Seth Rollins vs. Gunther, which featured the return of Bron Breakker.

In any case, WWE holds the second night of WrestleMania 42 today starting at 7 PM (Brasília time), with real-time coverage from House of Wrestling.
