Brock Lesnar remains one of the most talked-about names among pro-wrestling fans on social media, even surpassing WWE WrestleMania 42 as a whole.
Lesnar was defeated by Oba Femi in a lightning match to open the second and final night of the Showcase of Immortals. However, beyond the loss, Lesnar shocked the world by leaving his gloves and boots in the ring, signaling a retirement.
The moment was marked by the genuine emotion of Lesnar and Paul Heyman, who hugged and cried in the ring.
According to Bodyslam, plans for a match between Lesnar and Femi were discussed several months ago, not something decided at the last minute. Moreover, the Beast Incarnate was the one who chose the Ruler as his opponent.
“As early as February, Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar was floated for WrestleMania. Sources told Bodyslam that it was Lesnar himself who handpicked Femi for the match at WrestleMania 42.”
With that, the chances of a retirement grow even stronger, as it would be a clear ‘passing of the torch’ from Lesnar to Femi, in his final match, at WWE’s biggest event.
It is worth noting, however, that there are strong rumors about one final Lesnar match, possibly against Gunther, at SummerSlam in August. The event will take place in Minneapolis, his hometown.
It is expected that on the next Monday Night RAW, WWE will officially confirm Lesnar’s status.
