Brock Lesnar left his boots and gloves in the center of the ring last Sunday (19), at WrestleMania 42, after being defeated by Oba Femi. As we know well, that is a strong indication of retirement, or at least that’s how it has always been in WWE.
However, as we reported earlier here at House of Wrestling, there was an internal expectation within WWE that Lesnar would retire only at SummerSlam, in August, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, his hometown.
In other words, the event is the ideal setting for the official end of “The Beast”‘s historic career. On top of that, there is something even bigger at play, which is the fact that Paul Heyman still owes Gunther a favor.
On the March 30 episode of Monday Night RAW, the “Ring General” returned to WWE programming, stopping Seth Rollins from attacking Heyman and then challenging the “Visionary” to a match at WrestleMania 42, making it clear to the “Wiseman” that, from that moment on, he owed him.
On night one of WrestleMania 42, on Saturday, Gunther defeated Rollins by submission. Bron Breakker’s involvement, by the way, confirms that Rollins will not seek any kind of retaliation against Gunther, but rather revenge against the “Badass”. That naturally clears the way for Gunther to do whatever he wants.
Finally, with Lesnar‘s future still up in the air, Heyman’s favor to Gunther takes on even greater significance.
