WWE has always made its interest in signing MJF clear. According to Road Dogg, a former member of the SmackDown creative team, the current AEW World Champion was on the Stamford-based company’s radar on several occasions.

MJF is currently involved in a heated rivalry with Kenny Omega, whom he will face with his title on the line at AEW Dynasty on April 12.

On the latest episode of AEW Dynamite, MJF made a highly controversial statement toward Omega, saying he would be better off dead—referencing the various health issues that have troubled Omega throughout much of his career.

MJF Has Always Been on WWE’s Radar

During a recent autograph signing appearance, Dogg was asked whether WWE had ever been seriously interested in signing MJF and if they had tried to do so.

“Yes, a few times. We couldn’t make it happen. It always came at a crucial moment, and he always had something better to do.”

WWE’s most recent attempt came in early 2024, when MJF’s previous AEW contract was nearing its expiration.

However, in April, during an edition of AEW Dynasty, MJF—who had been absent from AEW programming—made his return and confirmed that he had signed a new contract with Tony Khan’s company.
