As previously reported by House of Wrestling, Nikki Bella suffered a legitimate injury to her left ankle on the April 3 episode of WWE SmackDown during an exchange with Charlotte Flair.
On last night’s live episode of the blue brand, WWE confirmed Nikki’s injury, stating that she is already in recovery in hopes of being cleared to compete at WrestleMania 42.
Nikki, alongside her sister Brie, is currently announced for a Fatal 4-Way Match at the Showcase of the Immortals for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Their opponents are Lash Legend and Nia Jax, Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria.
Nikki was not present on last night’s show, nor was Brie. Meanwhile, Legend, Jax, Bayley, Valkyria, Bliss, and Flair were involved in another physical confrontation.
If Nikki is not medically cleared in time for WrestleMania 42, WWE is expected to change the title match into a Triple Threat, with no replacement team added.
Nikki is aiming to return to WWE’s biggest event of the year. Her last match took place at WrestleMania 33 in 2017, when she teamed with John Cena to defeat The Miz and Maryse.
