The alliance between Pat McAfee and Randy Orton, made official on the latest episode of Friday Night SmackDown, was not well received by a large portion of the WWE audience, sparking a major wave of criticism on social media.
The situation became even more problematic when it was leaked that TKO CEO Ari Emanuel was responsible for McAfee’s inclusion in one of the main rivalries heading into WrestleMania 42.
However, on a recent episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the commentator, fully immersed in his new character, strongly criticized fans who felt bothered by his alliance with Orton.
“I asked pro wrestling fans this weekend if they had already thanked Randy Orton for what he’s going to do at WrestleMania for the future of pro wrestling. And you know, these people have no idea about anything. This is for their own good. They have no clue what they’re about to lose.”
According to McAfee, Orton will save WWE and pro wrestling as a whole by defeating Rhodes in Las Vegas, becoming the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
“The main story of the weekend was exactly that—Randy Orton saving the business at WrestleMania. It was good, on Friday night, to show the world that everything connects. Do you remember when Randy Orton showed up at the Combine? Right after that, I said I felt like the business had left me behind, and suddenly he was on the phone, motivating someone, taking control of everything. Maybe it was me telling him my daughter was about to turn 3 years old.”
McAfee’s rivalry, also with fans and the online community, could become one of the major highlights of his return to WWE. The commentator himself promised that he will leave the world of pro wrestling if Orton is defeated at the Showcase of Immortals.
