Even though it’s no longer in its prime years, like it was between 2019 and 2022, AEW still remains a strong alternative for pro wrestling fans who have grown tired of WWE.
The Stamford-based company, especially this week, has been hit with a wave of criticism and backlash on social media. Whether it’s the inclusion of Pat McAfee in the Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton rivalry heading into WrestleMania 42, or Sami Zayn picking up another win over Carmelo Hayes, fans are making it clear that their patience has run out.
Based on these recent developments, a fan named Andy, on his official X account, encouraged people to follow more promotions around the world instead of limiting themselves to just one or two.
However, shortly after the fan’s post, the reigning AEW World Champion, MJF, fired back with the following response:
“No, Andy. We’re not playing that game. There’s only one company that’s truly on fire right now. It’s AEW on TBS, TNT, and HBO Max.”
As mentioned above, even though AEW is no longer in its golden years, the company continues to deliver a very consistent product, posting solid numbers in 2026.
Since AEW Revolution, for example—which was considered a success in March—the company has shown improvement in the viewership of its weekly shows.
It will be interesting to see if that trend continues next week with AEW Dynasty, its upcoming pay-per-view event.
