Awards from websites specialized in Pro Wrestling often generate heated debates among fans and professionals in the industry. Last Friday, with the announcement of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter awards, this was no exception.

Readers of Dave Meltzer’s newsletter voted WWE Hall of Famer Booker T and current NXT commentator as the worst announcer of 2025. The vote placed the legend at the top of a list that featured names such as Pat McAfee, Michael Cole, Vic Joseph, and Tony Schiavone.

In light of the negative backlash, MJF took to social media today to come to the veteran’s defense. Setting aside the corporate issues between AEW and WWE, MJF was emphatic when speaking about Booker T’s career and legacy:

“In many ways, he is a role model for me. A true homegrown star, with tremendous drawing power on Warner TV, without ever having needed to work for McMahon. If you don’t like his work on commentary, that’s fine. But you talk nonsense about legends. Show respect — he earned it.”

MJF is currently the top star of AEW, having defended the AEW World Championship last Saturday against Brody King at Grand Slam: Australia.
