CM Punk made his return to WWE in November 2023, during Survivor Series held in his hometown of Chicago, shocking the entire pro wrestling world.
At the time, despite strong rumors about his return—especially after his departure from AEW—the moment was still considered impactful, since his first run with WWE, which ended in February 2014, had not concluded on the best terms.
In a recent interview with WWE Now on YouTube, the current World Heavyweight Champion revealed what motivated him to return to the Stamford-based company, citing strong ties to WrestleMania.
“You know, satisfaction—I’m not sure if that’s the right word—but it can be dangerous because, if you think about it, if I had main evented WrestleMania before I left, I don’t think I would have come back, because I would have already done it. Why would I come back?”
Punk was in the main event of WrestleMania 41 in 2025 on the first night of the event, where, alongside Roman Reigns, he was defeated by Seth Rollins in a Triple Threat Match.
This year, at WrestleMania 42, Punk is also in the main event, but on the second night of the event, where he will put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Roman Reigns.
